The Problem
Previously, equipment was purchased and partially configured through individual providers before being shipped to sites, where teams then completed rack builds and configurations. This created a complex, labor-intensive process that struggled to scale with the company’s rapid facility growth.
Fragmented licensing processes posed additional complexity, with individual campuses having different agreement terms and renewal dates across servers, firewalls, networking equipment, and other IT components. The developer also lacked cohesive processes for standardizing configurations, forecasting equipment refreshes, tracking inventory, and managing hardware lifecycles.
The BlueAlly Solution
We first worked with our client to create a “rinse and repeat” deployment model designed for rapid infrastructure delivery at scale. This included developing detailed procedures covering everything from warehouse inventory and equipment preparation to rack integration and final installation, enabling us to deliver preconfigured infrastructure racks that can be installed with only minor site-specific changes.
Our expert teams consolidated the client’s disparate mix of server, switching, and virtualization technologies into a standardized architecture. This simplified licensing, renewals, lifecycle management, and ongoing support. Our licensing specialists and solution architects helped the client forecast hardware refresh requirements and plan equipment replacements within roughly five-year lifecycle windows.
We also implemented a just-in-time delivery model, holding equipment in BlueAlly warehouses until needed on site to better align with construction schedules and reduce exposure to active construction environments. The client also gained real-time visibility into its warehouse inventory, helping internal teams better plan upcoming deployments.
The Results
This delivery model enabled the developer to support continued data center expansion without rebuilding the infrastructure process for every new facility. When equipment, site readiness, and other dependencies align, BlueAlly is able to prepare and deliver preconfigured infrastructure racks in approximately 2–3 weeks through its Integration Center.
Standardized architecture and centralized management also streamlined Day 2 operations, reducing the number of disparate technologies and processes the client’s internal team oversees. This project ultimately aligned the developer’s IT deployment model with the speed of its modular construction model, enabling rapid, repeatable infrastructure delivery as its global footprint expands.
