What is E-Rate?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created the Schools and Libraries Program (E-Rate) to make broadband and internal network equipment more affordable for eligible institutions.

E-Rate discounts cover:

  • Category 1: Data transmission and internet access
  • Category 2: Internal connections, managed internal broadband services (MIBS), and basic maintenance of internal connections (BMIC)

Eligible entities include public/private K-12 schools, school districts, and public libraries.
