The Client

Our client is a chemical manufacturer that serves thousands of global customers across numerous sectors, including agriculture, automotive, and industrial.

A leading chemical manufacturer’s warehouses needed new wireless infrastructure to reliably support its scan guns, or risked operational inefficiencies as its footprint expanded. We partnered with the client to execute a scalable wireless deployment across dozens of sites, maintaining transparent communications and close alignment with its technical teams throughout the process.

This collaboration enabled the manufacturer to deploy modern wireless infrastructure and conquer complexity across its expansive operations. Through this engagement, we provided insights that elevated the client’s inventory management processes, supporting long-term operational scalability and efficiency.

The Problem

The organization needed to implement new inventory management capabilities that relied on handheld scanning devices to improve accuracy and speed when picking and shipping inventory. However, its facilities lacked the wireless infrastructure to reliably support these devices across distribution areas.

This central challenge was further compounded by a lack of documentation mapping the locations of network cabling, switches, and fiber at each site. Each location also presented unique building materials, including drywall, brick walls, and wide-open warehouse spaces, making wireless planning complex. Up to this point, the client had managed wireless networks independently at each site, creating additional complications and limiting visibility.

The BlueAlly Solution

Our experts initially conducted predictive wireless site surveys using Ekahau Wi-Fi intelligence tools, leveraging facility blueprints to model RF coverage and account for wall materials, layout, and open spaces. This survey determined the optimal placement and quantities of access points for each location. We then performed on-site validation to identify existing network infrastructure, including switch locations, cabling paths, and fiber availability.

Remediation plans were created for each site, outlining required upgrades, including new Meraki wireless access points, switch installations, cabling, and fiber runs. The Meraki wireless infrastructure was deployed across 27 sites, including a wireless access bridge at one location. Our remote Smart Hands technicians executed field installations per standardized designs while providing centralized support to bring all sites online.

The Results

Through this project, our technical experts delivered a unified Meraki-based management platform in less than a year, helping our client centrally configure, monitor, and control wireless networks across all locations. This enabled the successful deployment of wireless scanning devices, improving inventory accuracy and accelerating shipping speed. The engagement also provided centralized, single-pane-of-glass visibility across 27 locations, simplifying network management by unifying separate wireless systems onto a single modernized platform.

This wireless infrastructure enabled consistent network configuration across sites, supporting employees who travel between locations. By completing this large-scale, multi-site deployment, our technical experts helped the client trust in its transformation, improving operational insight and visibility into wireless performance at an enterprise-wide level.
