Our client is a continuing care campus affiliated with a regional healthcare system, providing independent and assisted living, long-term care, hospice, and related services.
For a continuing care campus supporting patients at every stage of life, including independent living, long-term care, and hospice, the stakes were especially high. Yet the campus was running on an end-of-life communications system, comprised of outdated hardware, aging software, and increasing security gaps, which put patients and staff at a disadvantage.
Reliability wavered, security concerns grew, and the tools intended to enable rapid response ultimately hindered the organization’s ability to respond effectively. The care campus turned to BlueAlly for help navigating a complex transition that required seamless execution to retain high-quality lifesaving care. Our expert engineers delivered a future-ready communications system with technology that inspires confidence and empowers staff to focus on what matters most: their patients.
The Problem
The existing, end-of-life environment was the backbone of clinical coordination. Call control, voicemail, paging, and E911 functionality for first responders all depended on a system that had reached its limits. Any failure could have resulted in dangerous delays to patient care. As the system aged, our client faced reliability issues, security vulnerabilities, and limited features, driving it to seek third-party assistance in completing its complex systems upgrade. The stakes for completion of this project could not have been higher, as the care campus needed to maintain communications amid the migration to continue facilitating critical patient services.
The BlueAlly Solution
BlueAlly partnered with the care campus to design and deliver a future-ready unified communications upgrade that aligned with the highest standards of clinical performance and security. The project began with a parallel buildout strategy, which involved designing a migration approach to deploy the new virtualized environment on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) server hardware with VMware hypervisors, while integrating with the legacy system for pre-migration testing.
Our validation processes included rigorous testing of new applications related to call control, voicemail, E911, and paging integration functions. With this preparation complete, our engineers then worked with our client’s technical teams to migrate system data, users, and endpoints overnight within a 12-hour window to minimize operational disruption. By collaborating side by side during the migration, our team ensured that any issues were addressed immediately, resulting in a zero-defect transition that aligned with the continuing care campus’s operational needs.
The Results
Our client emerged with a reliable, secure unified communications system that bolstered the quality of lifesaving care for its patients. This solution enhanced reliability and improved cybersecurity capabilities, enabling the care campus to streamline operations while safeguarding its communications environment. The upgrade also empowered the care campus by expanding its feature set and strengthening workforce collaboration across its distributed teams. Improved clinical coordination enabled our client to seamlessly integrate E911 and paging functions, ensuring that first responders and care teams could respond quickly to health incidents.
Most importantly, the campus now has a future-ready foundation that is adaptable to evolving patient needs and continued growth via system upgrades and related processes. With BlueAlly’s guidance, what was once a daunting undertaking became a carefully orchestrated success, with our engineers providing insights that elevated our client’s communications infrastructure to enable better lifesaving care for its patient base.
